Moments of strong apprehension are still being experienced in an area of Via Nazionale. An intense smell of methane has in fact alarmed residents and passers-by, forcing many people to temporarily leave their homes. The gas leak would have been felt in the inhabited area near the municipal villa, with the smell quickly spreading along the entire perimeter of the area, reaching (probably thanks to the wind) up to the Bevivino area and also affecting the area below, corresponding to the Colaci area.
Numerous reports reached the single emergency number 112 and the Fire Brigade promptly intervened on site, starting safety checks and ordering the precautionary exit of residents from the homes closest to the affected area.
Moments of tension and panic, with many families pouring into the streets waiting to find out how the situation would evolve.
The work carried out by the Carabinieri and local police officers was fundamental, as they managed the roads and guaranteed public order during emergency operations. At the moment the firefighters are still engaged in investigation activities to precisely identify the origin of the gas leak and make the area safe. Operations will continue until the emergency is completely resolved.
Fortunately, according to initial information, there were no injuries or poisoned people reported. However, the authorities’ attention remains high until safety conditions are completely restored.
