Vincenzo Cristaldi, the pensioner who disappeared in Cariati, has been found dead: the body was found in a fence, the police are investigating. The search for a 72-year-old resident of the Ionian town whose family had reported him missing yesterday morning ended in the most dramatic way. The man was found dead inside a private fenced area, in an area not far from the hospital. A discovery on which the investigations of the Carabinieri are now focused, called to reconstruct step by step the last hours of the elderly man’s life.
What makes the sequence of movements particularly important is a first element: his car was found about 300 meters from the point where the body was found. From there, according to what emerges from the initial checks, the man continued on foot until he reached the private area. Some images from the video surveillance systems in the area, now being examined by investigators, would also provide possible indications on the route.
It is precisely through the intersection between the images, the elements collected on site and the position of the car that the investigators are trying to reconstruct the sequence of the last movements. It remains to be understood what happened after entering the enclosure and, above all, why the man headed towards that area.
The medical examiner intervened at the site of the discovery for an initial evaluation. The causes of death have not yet been ascertained. Further tests will clarify whether the death can be traced back to natural causes or whether there are circumstances that require further investigation. An autopsy has been ordered.
