The protest on state road 106 in Davoli, in the province of Catanzaro, will continue until Sunday but could be further extended. This was made known by the organizers who for a week have been animating the protest started last Friday and undertaken on the main Ionian connection artery. The reasons for the mobilization lie in the unstoppable rise in prices of fuel, raw materials and food. Not only farmers participate in the presidium, but also other categories such as lorry drivers, fishermen, lumberjacks and breeders.
“If the situation doesn’t change by the end of the year I will be forced to close my company” explains one of the participants in the protest, Saverio Rattà, a farmer from Soverato. «The main problem is the expensive diesel fuel, which has become an unmanageable expense, but in general the cost of living with the increase in bills. Even at the supermarket, now with 50 or 100 euros you no longer take anything home because everything has increased” explains the agricultural entrepreneur.
According to reports, there are at least a hundred people actively participating in the demonstration. Yesterday a group of demonstrators burned their voter ID cards in protest. “We will stay here to the bitter end, we have to understand if someone helps us otherwise we will be forced to close” concluded the farmer.
Delegation received by the Prefect
The Prefect of Catanzaro Clemente Di Nuzzo received a delegation of demonstrators from the demonstration underway in Davoli. He reminded them of the need to maintain a strong sense of responsibility, so that protest initiatives are carried out in full compliance with the law and without causing any repercussions on the safety and regular use of services by the community.
In conclusion, the Prefect, in highlighting how the Government’s action has already produced some significant results in reducing the cost of fuel, collected the requests represented by the delegation, assuming the commitment to convey them to the competent central levels.
