«Important resources even if not decisive». The president of Confagricoltura Calabria Alberto Statti welcomes with satisfaction the announcement of the allocation of 15 million euros by the Region against high fuel prices and asks for particular attention to agricultural diesel in defining the methods of intervention.
«It is an intervention that we had requested, because the increase in energy costs and, in particular, of agricultural diesel, is putting the economic sustainability of our businesses to the test», says Statti, commenting on the announcement by president Roberto Occhiuto.
The weight of diesel on company balance sheets
The president of Confagricoltura Calabria thanks Roberto Occhiuto, the councilor for Agriculture Gianluca Gallo and the regional government “for having listened to the needs of the productive world and having identified important resources even if not decisive in a particularly complex phase for agricultural businesses”. «This is a concrete sign of attention towards a sector that continues to guarantee production, employment and protection of the territory», he adds. Statti underlines how diesel represents an essential cost item for agricultural companies. The increases directly impact the profitability of companies, already dealing with high production costs and very low market prices for agricultural production. “This is why we asked the Region to intervene and today we note with satisfaction that that request has been accepted.”
The demands on actual consumption, energy and fertilizers
In defining the methods of intervention, Confagricoltura asks that particular attention be paid to agricultural diesel, taking into account the consumption actually incurred by the companies. Statti also expresses confidence in the possibility that the regional government will also intervene on the increases in energy and fertilizer costs. «Confagricoltura Calabria will continue to collaborate with the Region in a constructive spirit, in the interest of agricultural businesses and the competitiveness of the sector», he concludes.
