An intense and widespread prevention activity in the Crotone area to combat persecutory crimes, organized crime and widespread illegality. The agents of the State Police of the Crotone Police Headquarters launched a large-scale operation coordinated by the Police Commissioner Renato Panvino, which resulted in the adoption of various restrictive and surveillance measures.

Stop stalkers: threats to family members and ex-partners

In terms of protecting victims of violence and persecution, the Anti-Crime Division has notified two warning measures:

The attack on family business: In the first case, a 47-year-old from Crotone was warned for systematically persecuting his father and sister. The man repeatedly showed up near the place managed by the woman, enacting scenes and threats that caused the business to experience a drastic loss of customers.

Persecution after separation: The second provision concerns a 35-year-old local man, accused of having subjected his wife to months of harassment and insults, which continued even after the end of the marriage. The most serious intimidation and death threats occurred in particular during meetings to manage the children or at the sight of the woman in the company of her new partner.

Special surveillance for the clan affiliate and for a convicted felon

On the proposal of the Police Commissioner, the Court of Catanzaro has ordered two Special Public Security Surveillance measures against individuals considered to be highly socially dangerous, with severe requirements such as the ban on going out at night and the obligation to seek stable employment:

The profile of ‘Ndrangheta: Affected by the measure for the duration of 5 years with mandatory residence, a 57-year-old from Isola di Capo Rizzuto, a leading exponent of a well-known local ‘Ndrangheta. Already known for mafia association and drug trafficking, as well as for past asset seizures, in 2023 he was arrested on charges of looking after the cash and economic support of the clan’s inmates.

Repeated offences: The second measure (2 years with obligation to stay in Crotone) was notified to a 42-year-old from Crotone. The man, despite a previous Oral Warning, continued to be guilty of drug dealing, injuries, aggravated threats and contempt of a public official.

Controlled freedom, Daspo and controls on the territory

The action of the Police has extended to other key sectors for city security:

Supervised freedom: The execution of the alternative measure began for four convicted people.

Violation of the Daspo: A man was reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for failing to show up at the police station during sporting events, violating the obligations established by the provision against him.

The numbers of checks: During yesterday’s extraordinary services, the police identified 166 people (of which 33 with police records) and checked 59 vehicles, simultaneously carrying out home checks on those subjected to detention or restrictive measures.
