The Provincial Command of the Financial Police of Reggio Calabria has seized, in Taurianova, an area of approximately 500 square meters located on state-owned railway land, used as an illegal landfill for special waste, including dangerous waste.

The intervention, carried out by the financiers of the Compagnia di Palmi as part of the economic control services of the territory and to combat environmental crimes, involved the hamlet of San Martino, where thousands of tires and two end-of-life vehicles had been abandoned, not reclaimed, directly on the land, close to the tracks of the old “Taurense” railway line.

Following the inspection carried out by the military, it emerged that part of the waste was completely hidden by vegetation.

The investigations carried out, also through the cross-referencing of information extrapolated from the databases used by the Corps, made it possible to trace the availability of the area to the owner of an individual company located in the immediate vicinity, operating in the tire replacement and repair sector. Considering the presence of special waste and the consequent risk of environmental contamination, the military proceeded with the preventive seizure of the area, the tires and the two end-of-life vehicles.

Based on the investigative findings, the owner of the company was reported to the Judicial Authority for illegal occupation of public land and for violations of environmental legislation, in relation to the unauthorized management of waste and the construction of a real illegal open-air landfill.

During the checks, two other cars were administratively seized, at the disposal of the owner of the company, found parked on public land and without insurance.
