Pandemic, energy crisis, wars, speculation and tensions on the markets have profoundly changed the balance of the Italian production system. For many companies, especially smaller ones, the emergency is no longer a parenthesis to overcome, but a structural condition to deal with every day. The findings of the Unioncamere Observatory on the first half of 2026 provide the picture of an economy exposed to increasingly persistent pressures, between rising costs and reduced margins.
Over 70% of Italian companies fear the effects of high energy prices on their balance sheets and 43.4% expect a contraction in profits.
Troubles that affect the fragility of the Calabrian economy. The difficulty of smaller companies in bearing the brunt of costs, maintaining liquidity and finding resources to continue investing can be found, in particular, in one figure: one hundred and one judicial liquidations in six months. Behind the insolvency proceedings there are not only red balance sheets, but also jobs, relationships with suppliers waiting to be paid and activities that risk leaving a void in the territories in which they operate.
The representation of the Observatory on the business crisis in the first half of 2026 in Calabria is completed by nine agreements with creditors, seven negotiated settlements of the crisis and two debt restructuring agreements. There are no simplified composition procedures, while only one company has resorted to compulsory administrative liquidation.
Numbers that cover different paths: from the search for an agreement with creditors to the attempt at reorganization, up to liquidation. The geography of the business crisis in Calabria defines the production fabric largely composed of micro and small companies, often with limited financial reserves and less capacity to absorb shocks.
