An intense activity to prevent and combat urban violence and widespread crime. This is the balance drawn by the Messina Police Headquarters, which during the month of October adopted 28 measures against subjects deemed socially dangerous.
The measures, the result of a careful analysis conducted by the Anti-Crime Division on the episodes recorded in recent weeks, aim to protect public safety and protect the weakest sections of the population.
The measures in detail
5 Daspo (Prohibition of access to sporting events): Among these, two measures affect as many ultras of the Gela and Sancataldese fans. The two were identified as being responsible for the clashes that occurred last December 14th in the boarding area of Rada San Francesco. On that occasion, the opposing factions fought each other with sticks, belts, rods and bottles, also throwing firecrackers and smoke bombs between the vehicles waiting for the ferry.
11 Fogli di Via Obligatori (FVO): The provisions, issued by the Police Commissioner, impose a ban on return (for periods of three to four years) to various municipalities in the province of Messina against individuals from the Catania area and foreign citizens. The perpetrators of property crimes and scams have ended up in the crosshairs, with particular attention to the phenomenon of defrauding the elderly (such as the well-known “fake policeman” scam). A man originally from Catania was served with two separate warnings for the attacks committed in Alì Terme, Nice di Sicilia and in the capital.
7 Oral Notices: Personal prevention measures notified to as many subjects – including a minor -, with the formal invitation to maintain conduct strictly compliant with the law.
5 Warnings: Three measures were issued for episodes of domestic violence, while another two concern cases of persecutory acts (stalking).
Prevention action
Upon completion of the October activity, three subjects were also proposed to the Court of Messina – Prevention Measures Section for the application of the Special Surveillance of PS with obligation to stay.
The operation is part of a broader and constant strategy to intensify territorial control, aimed not only at repressing disturbances in public order, but also at guaranteeing timely and sensitive protection for the most vulnerable victims.
