10 days after the death of Serafino Congiwhich has become one of the “symbols” of medical malpractice, the echoes continue throughout Calabria and in much of Italy. For this reason, first, there was a historic and participatory torchlight procession that has no equal or precedent, while on Monday evening, again thanks to the various associations, a packed public meeting took place, with the slogan «we defend the right to healthcare”.
And as requested by many, the mayor of the city yesterday Rosaria Succurro he asked the president of the city council Giuseppe Simone Bitontito convene as soon as possible a session of the Civic Assembly, open to associations and trade unions, «with the aim – we read in the press note – of guaranteeing a constructive and inclusive discussion on issues of fundamental importance for the community. During the session, current difficulties such as the shortage of medical personnel, access to health facilities and the need to strengthen emergency services will be discussed. The objective is to work to create a constructive dialogue with regional and national institutions, so that local requests are heard and adequate resources are allocated for the territory”. Furthermore, for mayor Succurro, “healthcare is an essential right and the battle for its protection must be undertaken in a united way”.
