For the citizens of Crotone, a moment expected for over 25 years will mark the next August 18: the definitive removal of the industrial residues deposited a few meters from the sea will begin and never disposed of correctly. Therefore, the journey of over 400,000 tons of non -hazardous waste and 360,000 tons of hazardous waste (not containing tenorms and asbestos) will begin, outside Crotone and the Calabria region.
This was announced by the extraordinary commissioner for reclamation on the contaminated site of national interest of Crotone, Cassano, Cerchiara di Calabria. It will begin, it is written in a note, with about two thousand tons of non -hazardous waste, of the about ten thousand tons currently already removed, stored in the bays of protection and safety made in areas of private property by Eni Rewind Spa, called D15 Nonnormorm.
After the characterization, selection and approval procedures, the materials will be loaded on over 100 heavy vehicles (about 15 trucks per day) and transferred to plants and landfills authorized in various regions of Italy. During all the phases, the note continues, “rigorous environmental and health checks will be carried out thanks to the support of the Carabinieri Army – Calabria Legion – Forestry, Environmental and Agri -Food and Arpacal technicians Command. “This reclamation – notes Commissioner Sin Crotone – represents the first real concrete action against an abusive landfill, never authorized for this purpose, by the Calabria Region and where for decades, waste containing heavy metals, radionuclides and asbestos have been deposited”.
The next steps to be taken will be oriented to complete the reclamation of the front area, to free the city from the Cic, to return the usability to the archaeological area, the mouth of the exterior and the sea area – port.
