A “New Town” in the plain of Gioia Tauro to unite the cities of the Valle delle Saline

The idea was born at the beginning of this year, in Taurianova, on the sidelines of an event promoting a book on Smart Working. Rethinking the promotion and enhancement of the Pianigiano territory starting from some urban and historical peculiarities resulting from the events that in the last three centuries have changed the face of a piece of Calabria. An intuition resulting from a comparative reasoning between what is the archeology of the past and what, on the other hand, is the theory of the future applied to the roots.

For Francesco Maria Spanò, director of People & Culture of the Luiss “Guido Carli” University of Rome, the question is essentially this: to combine in a single development project in reality united by the destruction of the 1783 earthquake and the subsequent reconstruction. Municipalities falling within the ancient “Valle delle Saline” and circumscribed on a strategic district plan for the implementation of truly effective social, cultural and economic policies.
The proposal immediately found the attention of the municipal administration of Taurianova and, in particular, of the councilor for culture Maria Fedele. From there, closely, the start of a dense network of interlocutions aimed at the flooding of the working group: first Terranova Sappo Minulio, then Oppido Mamertina, Polistena, Cittanova. And shortly there are also novelties from other municipalities.
