Reggina is still waiting for the great strikers and more. The last official announcement dates back to August 5, when the Amaranths announced the hiring of Reis. Since then the same needs have apparently remained for the squad: an under goalkeeper to accompany Lagonigro, a pair of central defenders, a midfielder and two central attackers. The count would drop if it were decided to register the two players on probation: between the posts the 2007 class Blazevic and the defender Anton. The closest name for the defense is Baldan, fresh from winning the championship with Scafatese. For the attack we expect one of Comi or Patierno, then a player who knows the D is Da Silva from Barletta, a difficult hypothesis but still standing.
On the midfielder, however, the choice could depend on the characteristics that are deemed necessary or on the opportunities that the market will offer from the higher categories.
They will be the movements that complete the numbers of a true technical revolution which also marked a change in philosophy. Reggina, despite raising the bar, managed to lower the average team age.
Last year there was a lot of focus on the ability of the over 30s to make a difference. The ’92 class Blondett and Montalto (’88) arrived, joining other important starters such as Adejo (’89), Barillà (’88) and Ragusa (’90). Footballers with very important careers who in some phases have managed to make a difference in recent years. Just think of the captain, held back by injuries in the last season but absolutely decisive and enthralling in the first two years in D after the restart in 2023.
On the demographic front this year we wanted to change the register, thanks to the possibility of picking up some of the best profiles in the category or even players from higher divisions. Baggi, for example, comes from three tournaments as a protagonist in C and despite his young age he preferred to start again from D with Reggina. In the overs that have arrived in Amaranth this season there are only players under or just slightly above the threshold of thirty years of age. They range from Alma (born in ’93) to Reis (2004), passing through Lancini (’94) Accquadro (’96), Abonckelet, Guida and Franchini (’98), Rotulo (’99), Baggi (2003) and Baggi (2003).
At the moment the most experienced of the squad is the confirmed Laaribi, born a few months before Alma. To date there are only six over 30s in the squad, with Di Grazia who seems destined to change his shirt. In addition to Alma, Laaribi and Lancini, there are Acquadro (who turned thirty in March) and Porcino (born in 1995). Having players above all in the heart of their careers can be an indication of the desire to guarantee a group that, in addition to superior technical qualities, can offer useful intensity to match the competitive spirit that all of Amaranth’s opponents will bring to the field.
If they arrived, the record of oldest player would be taken by one between Comi (’92) and Patierno (’91), but the history of the D says that the over 30s at the center of the attack often make the difference. The feeling is that among the signings that will arrive there will be some other expert profile and Baldan (’93) would be one of these.
