A “natural” theater, a real “agorà” where the community meets and dialogues: to Acri-which has obtained the qualification of “city that reads” for the three-year period 2024-2026-Piazza Marconi or “of the fruits” (for the traditional market that takes place in the morning), now rethought through a restiiling, the fulcrum of city vitality returns with the event “La square and the book. Poetry, history, novel “, promoted by the municipal administration of Acri, a Department of Culture, which this year transforms itself into the national prize named after the disappeared Acrese poet, and jurist, Giuseppe Antonio Arena.
From Friday in the square evening meetings are underway with the authors of the texts that were finalist of the prize, in her three joints: Elisa Longo, “Sanasàna” (between the lines books); Carmine Pinto, “The brigand and the general” (Laterza); The journalist of the Gazzetta Anna Mallamo, “I see it with the dark” (Einaudi).
The winner’s award ceremony will take place in the square on Tuesday, during the evening that will also include a round table on the books in competition and during which it will also be remembered, also with the reading of his verses, the figure and work of Giuseppe Antonio Arena.
The Arena Award will be awarded by the jury, chaired by prof. Carlo Fanelli (associate disu unical) and composed of Angelo Garotti (secretary), Ettore Catalano (already ordinary of Italian literature at the University of Bari and Salento), Franco Brambilla (teacher and trainer of the civic theater school “Paolo Grassi” in Milan), Paola Abenavoli (journalist and essayist) and Angela Siciliano (research assignist at the University of Parma).
