«As in Sicily, also in Messina the time has come for a much broader reflection within the centre-right. We will do it in the next few days.” The senator and regional secretary of the League, Nino Germanà, at least at this stage, does not want to be among those who are playing “big game”, seeking responsibility for the electoral defeat on the banks of the Strait (only on the Messina side, because in Reggio Calabria the centre-right won by a landslide with percentages even more “Bulgarian” than those recorded by Federico Basile and from the South calls the North).
But Nino Germanà also has some “stones” to remove: «As the League we could have claimed the choice of the candidate for mayor, because in the national and regional agreements it had been established that we were the ones to give the indication on Messina. I didn’t do it and I was absolutely loyal, respecting the coalition and the candidate chosen by Forza Italia.” And here’s the “pebble in the shoe”: «Unfortunately, in other cities that went to vote with the proportional system in Sicily, the allies did not do the same towards the League. But that’s okay…”
It is clear that there are things that went wrong and that in Messina, in the “kingdom” of De Luca and Basile, both the Center-Right and the Center-Right made a long series of mistakes, before, during and perhaps even after the vote of 24 and 25 May.
