Alessandra Minniti leaves the regional leadership of the Greens. A painful but irrevocable decision, made following the withdrawal of Paolo Todaro’s candidacy in Messina. According to Minniti, the choice of the centre-left represents a “political mistake and a historical sin” which deprives the city of a necessary debate on crucial issues such as the budget, subsidiaries and opposition to the development model linked to the Bridge.

Today I resigned from the position of regional spokesperson, following the methods, which I did not agree with, with which my political party ultimately managed Paolo Todaro’s candidacy.
In fact, I believe that withdrawing the candidacy was a political mistake and a historical sin, if you’ll excuse the term, for Messina. Because if on the one hand it is realistic to think that you cannot win against the Basile – De Luca army, Todaro’s candidacy offered the possibility of tackling very thorny issues in the electoral campaign precisely for the Basile management, such as the budget and subsidiaries, and of tying together the theme of the economic-social and cultural awakening of a city that from this point of view is dead, with the rejection of the development model linked to the bridge. Criticism of the centers of power and a new economy.
There was the possibility of raising the bar of awareness of the political discourse that the center-left was able to make to the city, also with a view to building a future, and of electing a few more councilors, even green ones (which is unheard of in this city). There were many people who wanted to run with Paolo because there was a moment of hope. Many who write to me disappointed.
Now I can only wish good wishes to whoever will ultimately be the candidate of the centre-left, and thank those who have spoken with me until the end and who certainly have no responsibility, above all the provincial secretary of the PD Armando Hyerace, to whom I wish a good election campaign.
