Alessandro Arcigli has been appointed, for the third consecutive four-year period, provincial delegate of CONI of Messina. The nomination came from the president of the CONI Regional Committee, Enzo Falzone from Catania, who recognized the validity of a path started in 2017 (the year in which the then Regional President Sergio D’Antoni thought for the first time of Arcigli to entrust the delicate task of CONI provincial delegate) and which in recent years has brought tangible fruits in terms of purely sporting initiatives, social participation and institutional partnership. And it is also by virtue of this work that Cristina Correnti from Messina, for the second consecutive four-year period, is one of the two vice-presidents of the CONI regional committee.
The Delegate’s comment: goals and new challenges
“Great satisfaction for my confirmation as CONI Delegate directly requested by the president Enzo Falzone and his deputies D’Antoni and Correnti, whom I thank for the great respect towards me. The work carried out in recent years, possible only thanks to the availability and passion of the provincial staff with the trustee Francesco Giorgio at the forefront, has been based on the protection and growth of the Messina sports movement in full synergy with the municipal administration of the capital.
Work that was recognized by President Falzone to the point of confirming Cristina Correnti in the regional council as vice president. Let me say that still having Cristina in the role of Regional Vice President of CONI is a historic event for Messina sport and I am proud to be her friend and to be able to continue to operate in full synergy. A very delicate period now awaits us, which is putting the entire world of organized sport to the test, also due to the important changes envisaged by the reform desired by the government, which must be addressed with particular competence and helping the adaptation process of sports organizations to the new rules. And it is precisely these challenges that we will pay maximum attention to, in order to change pace and try not to leave any reality behind. A complicated challenge that we will face with great attention, implementing all possible actions to protect the entire sporting movement of the Province”.
Operational objectives and local roots
Furthermore, it is my intention to ask the Regional President to immediately appoint the Provincial Technical Coordinator and to identify the most suitable personalities to cover the functions of “area trustee”, true “sentinel” of CONI in the area.
I will start by proposing the name of the trustee for the capital who, as happened in the past with Francesco Giorgio, will be a real “second delegate” with whom I will be able to act in tandem with absolutely interchangeable roles. Furthermore, it will be fundamental to continue with the fruitful collaborative relationship with the municipal administration of the capital which, throughout the last mandate, saw the Mayor Federico Basile and his “sports policy expert” Francesco Giorgio as precious allies from the sporting world.”
The strategic role of CONI in the province
In his renewed role, Arcigli will represent CONI in the province of Messina and coordinate the activities of amateur sports associations, promoting Olympic values and encouraging sports practice in all its forms. A strategic role, which aims to strengthen the link between the territory and the national sports system.
In fact, the role of provincial delegate involves continuous dialogue with local associations and institutions. A work that aims to consolidate the provincial sports network and enhance every reality, small or large, that every day contributes to the growth of Messina, Sicilian and Italian sport.
