An abusive seaside beach, black workers and serious irregularities in the field of safety and food hygiene: this is the budget of the controls carried out in recent days by the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Locri, supported by the Harbor Master’s Office of Roccella Ionica and by specialized personnel of the Inspectorate of Labor (Nil) and the agri -food protection of Reggio Calabria.
The inspection activity, conducted along the Ionian coast of Reggio, focused mainly on the seaside structures, in a period of the year in which the tourist presence increases significantly. The goal was twofold: on the one hand, to contrast the submerged work phenomenon and check the safety conditions in the workplace; on the other, ascertain compliance with the legislation on the maritime state property and the traceability of foods intended for consumption.
During the checks, the military ascertained the existence of a completely abusive factory, without the necessary administrative authorizations. The activity was immediately closed and the entire structure, including maritime equipment, subjected to preventive seizure.
But the irregularities did not stop there: in various activities they have been identified not regularly hired workers, violations of hygiene-sanitary rules and the absence of mandatory information on the traceability of food products offered to customers. The carabinieri raised administrative sanctions for a total of about 14,000 euros and reported six people held responsible, in various capacities, of the violations found.
Particular attention was also paid to the safety of boats: in some factories the absence of the rescue personnel was detected, an essential requirement to guarantee the safety of bathers.
