«It is appropriate for everyone to remain within their own scope of responsibility. As a Christian I fully agree with the words of the Holy Father. And I wish the pontiff good luck in the apostolic journey he has just opened in Africa: we will always be at the side of those who build peace.”
The head of the political secretariat of FdI, Arianna Meloni, said this in an interview with the newspaper La Stampa, speaking about Trump’s attack on Leo XIV. On the newly elected Hungarian political elections, Meloni commented as follows: «Magyar has the same positions as FdI not only on illegal immigration but also on Ukraine. We will work together.” On the left, he underlined, «everyone was talking about this dangerous dictatorship in Hungary: it seems to me that there were free elections, with a large turnout and a clear expression of the popular will. And with the outgoing president who immediately admits defeat.” Speaking about the defeat in the referendum, Meloni said that, in his opinion, the “geopolitical context” had a “significant” impact. And Italy, with the victory of the no vote, has lost a lot.”
On the conflict in the Middle East, Meloni then stated that «the government is right to ask Israel to account for the attacks in Lebanon which also involved our soldiers. Netanyahu is not helping a peace process and Italy, and Europe, want stability.” Finally, the head of the political secretariat of FdI spoke about the recent resignation of Andrea Delmastro: “there are politicians who, out of a sense of responsibility, have left their public offices despite having done their job very well”. On the other hand, referring to Ilaria Salis, Meloni says that «there are politicians who get elected to avoid trials, they live with their collaborators and don’t even think about removing them».
