Arson in Arena, damage count begins: chestnut, olive and fir trees razed to the ground

The damage is being counted in Arena, a town in the Preserre Vibo Valentia area, where in the last few hours two large fires have destroyed two hillsides, sending up in smoke several hectares of land containing chestnut groves, olive groves and fir trees. The first fire affected an area between the Berrina hamlet and the remains of the local medieval castle, while in the second case the flames developed near the municipal aqueduct. Several homes were evacuated as a precaution by firefighters, who intervened to put out the fires that were also threatening a nearby church. Calabria Verde personnel were also involved in extinguishing the flames. The origin of the fires was malicious.
