The fugitive of a 56-year-old man, arrested by the Carabinieri of the Belvedere Marittimo station after more than three months of uninterrupted searches, ended at dawn on Friday 17 July. The 56-year-old had been wanted since last April, when he escaped a precautionary custody order in prison issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Paola at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to what was reconstructed during the investigations, the story originated on 7 April, when the man allegedly broke into the offices of the Municipality of Belvedere Marittimo.
In a clear state of alteration, he allegedly threatened some representatives of the municipal administration and attacked an employee, who was then forced to seek medical attention. The intervention of the Local Police and the Carabinieri made it possible to stop the 56-year-old, who was arrested in the act on suspicion of the crime of injury and violence to a public official. The man was subsequently placed under house arrest pending the validation hearing. But already the following morning he would have managed to escape, losing track of himself. The Court of Paola, having held the hearing in his absence, validated the arrest by ordering the aggravation of the precautionary measure with custody in prison. From that moment on, a vast search activity was started by the military personnel of the Carabinieri, who intensified controls throughout the entire territory of the upper Tyrrhenian Sea of Cosenza.
The investigations concluded in the early hours of Friday, when the Carabinieri identified the wanted man near his home of origin. The raid began before the man could attempt a new escape. After the formalities, the 56-year-old was transferred to the prison in Paola, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
