An excellent acquittal, three sentences redetermined and reduced compared to the previous appeal sentence annulled by the Supreme Court of Cassation and only one conviction confirmed. It is the balance of the “Black Book” bis trial, celebrated with an abbreviated rite.

What stands out is the acquittal of Antonino Caridi, considered among the leaders of the historic ‘ndrina Libri and son-in-law of the late ‘ndrangheta leader Domenico Libri. The Court of Appeal also declared against him the loss of effectiveness of the precautionary measure of the obligation to stay.

Reduced sentences and a confirmed conviction

The sentences have been redetermined for Gianpaolo Sarica, sentenced to 13 years in prison; Antonio Zindato, at 9 years, 6 months and 20 days; Giuseppe Serranò, at 8 years old. However, the 12 years already inflicted on Giuseppe Libri, believed to be among the leaders of the Cannavò gang, were confirmed.

Furthermore, the mafia aggravating circumstance is excluded.

Releases and precautionary measures

The judges in Piazza Castello declared the ineffectiveness of precautionary custody against Giuseppe Libri, Gianpaolo Sarica, Antonio Zindato and Giuseppe Serranò, ordering their immediate release if not detained for another reason.

At the same time, the measure of the obligation to stay and the obligation to report to the judicial police was applied to them, considering the precautionary needs to be persistent.

The reasons for the sentence will be filed within ninety days.
