During the summer season, a period in which the user increases in the reggino area, the attention of the carabinieri of the Compagnia di Melito Porto Salvo is also maximum on the bathing establishments. During the numerous checks carried out with the collaboration of the Anti -Sophistication and Health Unit of Reggio Calabria, the PS police station of Condofuri, the Guardia di Finanza and the Port Authority of Melito Porto Salvo, several violations were found to the navigation code, to the Consolidated Law on immigration and safety as well as in the field of food hygiene in 2 shores sites respectively in the municipalities of San Lorenzo and Condofuri.
The goal of these checks was twofold: on the one hand, to contrast the submerged work phenomenon and check the safety conditions in the workplace; on the other, ascertain compliance with the legislation on the maritime state property and the traceability of foods intended for consumption.
Specifically, at the bathing establishment located in the Marina hamlet of the Municipality of Condofuri, the military had the opportunity to ascertain the presence of foods without labeling and traceability, the lack of drafting and compilation of the HACCP corporate self -control plan and the removal from the rescue station of the bathing assistant, a very important figure for the safety of bathers. Administrative penalties were triggered for the owner of the Lido for a total amount of about 4500 euros. But it’s not over here. At a lido located in the hamlet of the Marina of the Municipality of San Lorenzo, the operators found themselves in front of an even more disconcerting scenario ascertaining the presence of an irregular Indian worker on the national territory and without any recognition document and two employees of Egyptian nationality, in possession of a expired and not renewed residence permit, never presented to the police headquarters competent to regularize its position in Italy.
The complaint was taken for the aforementioned subjects as well as for the owner of the Lido for having employed a clandestine worker. A heavy administrative penalty for about 4,600 euros was also elevated to the latter for omitted communication to the center for the use of the establishment of the employment relationship with a simultaneous proposal for suspension of the entrepreneurial activity.
The operation is part of the wider plan of controls prepared by the carabinieri, in agreement with the other police forces, to ensure, especially during the summer season, adequate standard of legality, safety and quality of the services offered to citizens and tourists who crowd the Calabrian coast.
It should be noted that the criminal proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigations phase and that, for the suspects, the principle of presumption of innocence is applied to the definitive sentence.
