With a total investment of 350 thousand euros for the financing of seven projects presented by researchers under 40, the announcement rewarded the University of Catanzaro by allocating 50 thousand euros for the development of an innovative project in the field of immunotherapy against blood cancer.
Author of the research project “Development of an immunotherapy precision strategy against B cells neoplasms through an agnostic platform” is Daniele Caraccioloassociated professor of blood diseases of the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro. Commenting on the winning study said: “The hypothesis of this project is that the discovery of new therapeutic targets on the surface of cancer cells can represent an important clinical opportunity for the development of personalized immunotherapy against blood neoplasms such as leukemias, lymphomas and myelomas. The goal is, therefore, to instruct our immune system to selectively destroy the tumor cells that express these new ones therapeutic targets “.

Since its launch to date, the “Roche Foundation for independent research” call has allocated 4.3 million euros, establishing itself as one of the most successful initiatives in this area: more than 2,600 projects have been candidate over the years and 63 those financed so far.

On May 5, the candidates for the new edition of the announcement opened. It will be possible to present the projects – in English – until 1 August 2025, exclusively through the website www.rocheperlarcarca.it. The new edition also provides that the projects are presented by Italian public or private bodies, without profit, and by IRCCS. The person in charge of the research project (PI, Principal Investigator) must be less than 40 years old. Support to young researchers operating in Italy also translates this year into a funding of 350 thousand euros, intended for seven research projects in five therapeutic areas: oncology, oncological hematology, ophthalmology, neuroscience and hereditary coagulation diseases.
