“San Nicola Arcella is one of the most beautiful villages in our region, I believe one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It legitimately participates in this competition, now it is up to us Calabrians to push it towards victory as it was a few years ago for Tropea”: with these words the regional councilor for Agriculture, Gianluca Gallo, presented, in the press conference held this morning in the Green Room of the regional Citadel, the candidacy of San Nicola Arcella for the thirteenth edition of the competition “The Village of Villages”the national initiative that every year celebrates the most beautiful and authentic villages in Italy within the program “Kilimangiaro”, broadcast on Rai 3.
Together with Gianluca Gallo, the regional councilors Giovanni Calabrese and Antonio Montuoro and the mayor of San Nicola Arcella, Eugenio Madeo, spoke.
In the words of the councilors, the strategic vision of President Roberto Occhiuto, aimed at strengthening the positive tourist image of Calabria in Italy and abroad.
“We are experiencing a phase of strong growth and national recognition – underlined Gallo – it is the concrete sign of a Calabria that invests in environmental sustainability, culture and protection of the territory: a truly extraordinary Calabria”.
During the meeting, the Tourism Councilor Giovanni Calabrese presented the official video created as part of the “Calabria Straordinaria” brand to support the vote in support of the village. “It is a source of great satisfaction for the Calabria Region – highlighted Calabrese. This candidacy – continued the Councilor – represents the continuity of an intense work to promote our villages, natural heritage and territorial excellence. San Nicola Arcella, with its iconic beauty, is an extraordinary business card for those arriving in Calabria. We hope it can win this competition, but today it already represents a precious opportunity to strengthen visibility and promote the beauties of Calabria”.
The Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Montuoro, highlighted the synergistic work in support of the territories: “We have implemented an important system action, working side by side with the Municipalities, in particular on the path for the Blue Flags. We have activated – Montuoro reiterated – a real regional technical task force, offering concrete support to the territories. The results we expect in the coming months are the result of this shared commitment. At the same time, we are carrying out significant interventions on the environmental front: from purification to improving the quality of bathing water, up to collaboration with environmental associations”.
Supporting the vote for San Nicola Arcella at the 13th edition of “Il Borgo dei Borghi” was the speech of mayor Eugenio Madeo, who, thanking the regional council, underlined the symbolic value of the candidacy: “Representing Calabria is an important opportunity not only for our municipality but for the entire region. A possible victory would mean turning the spotlight on Calabria.
“San Nicola Arcella – explained mayor Madeo passionately – contains everything that our land can offer: the mountain with the Pollino Park, the sea, with a fantastic element of attraction, the Arcomagno which is a unique wonder”. In recalling the intervention financed by the Calabria Region for the safety of the Arcomagno, the Mayor reviewed the other beauties of the historic village of San Nicola Arcella, presenting the promotional video that was created for the occasion.
At the end of the meeting with the press, the mayor, together with the regional councilors, met the president Roberto Occhiuto.
