Seizure throughout Italy of a suspicious product: broccoli jars in oil. This is the measure ordered by the Public Prosecutor of Paola as part of the investigation into the botulinum intoxication recorded in Cosentino, which caused the death of Luigi di Sarno, 52 -year -old tourist of Cercola (Naples), and the hospitalization of nine other people. The investigation, coordinated by the prosecutor Domenico Fiordalisi, hypothesizes the crimes of death as a consequence of another crime and marketing of harmful foods. The magistrates are also verifying any medical responsibilities, since the victim had initially gone to a private clinic of Maritime Belvedere. According to what is learned, the seizure arranged on a national scale will serve to ascertain whether the botulinan toxin contamination has concerned other product packaging or if it took place directly in the store. The investigations will be conducted by the NAS carabinieri, while specific analyzes on some products found in the food truck seized as a diamond are underway by the ASP of Cosenza. The prosecutor also ordered the autopsy on the body of Sarno, which is located in the Lagonegro hospital. According to the reconstructions, on Wednesday the man had consumed a sandwich at a diamond food truck, as well as the other nine hospitalized. After the first ailments he had gone to the private clinic, where he would have been advised to turn to a more equipped structure. He therefore decided to return to Campania, but during the journey, while he traveled the walnut valley floor in the territory of Lagonegro (Potenza), his condition worsened quickly. The family members alerted 118, who sent a helbulance, but the man died before arriving in the hospital. At the moment, the conditions of the nine people hospitalized in Cosenza remain stable: seven are in intensive care, a boy is in pediatrics, and another patient is under observation in the emergency room. The botulinum antitoxin serum, sent in an emergency by Taranto and subsequently from Rome, was administered to five of them. Other vials are now kept on the basis. According to doctors, botulinum poisoning symptoms can also occur up to 72 hours after ingestion, which makes it impossible, at the moment, to exclude the appearance of new cases.
