The last meeting of the Reggio centre-left parties only served to ensure that they all agreed on the figure of the esteemed cardiologist Frank Benedetto, director of the Centro Cuore del Gom (of which he was also extraordinary commissioner), as the candidate of the coalition in the single-member constituency where voting will take place on 27 and 28 September to elect the replacement of the resigning deputy and fresh mayor Francesco Cannizzaro (FI). “It’s the right element, we’re confident,” the Democratic Party says. So, it thundered so much that it rained. In these sultry days the search for the right candidate has been constant. The names of the independent left-wing journalist Carmine Fotia and the mayor of Roccella Vittorio Zito were “rejected” for different reasons, while at the last kilometer Benedetto’s identikit emerged and everyone agreed.
A choice – that of Frank Benedetto strongly supported by the regional secretary of the Democratic Party Nicola Irto – which shakes up the games of an election that already appeared marked in favor of the centre-right, which will propose the candidacy of the lawyer to the voters of Reggio. Roman Fabio Roscioli, treasurer of Forza Italia and very popular with Fininvest and the Berlusoni family, as “heir” to the seat that belonged to the Hon. Cannizzaro.
