Opposition representatives in the Regional Council speak of anomalies and inconsistencies in the rules that the law establishing Arrical, approved two and a half years ago, dictates for the elections of the governing council of the governing body for water and waste. But from the upper floors of the Citadel there is no intention to postpone, as requested by the Democratic Party and 5 Star, the vote scheduled in the five provincial capitals for tomorrow and the dems, who had previously pushed for the postponement, are now changing course: «The election of the Arrical area board of directors on September 29th, which will probably not be postponed as requested by the PD group leader, nevertheless represents a decisive appointment which, in fact, puts an end to the current monocratic management. Restoring shared management is essential to assign the governance of the Authority that manages waste and water resources in Calabria to legitimate representatives.”
Everything therefore suggests that the elections – which had to be held within 60 days by regional law no. 10 of 20 April 2022 – will take place as planned and therefore the “parliament” of 40 seats will soon be established (7 of which belong by right to the 5 capitals plus Corigliano-Rossano and Lamezia Terme) through which the local Calabrian administrators will enter into governance of the two delicate sectors at the center of a reform which, so far, has centralized powers with the leaders of the Region and the extraordinary commissioner Bruno Gualtieri.
