Calabria Region, Education: the Council approves the plan for the right to study next school year

The Council of the Calabria Region, in today’s session, on the proposal of the Councilor for Education and Scholastic Hostracy, Maria Stefania Caracciolo, approved the plan for the right to study, school year 2025/2026, with a total allocation of 4.5 million euros, intended for local authorities, to guarantee the essential services that make the right to education of Calabrian students effective.

The plan is confirmed as a strategic tool to support families and municipalities in the provision of indispensable services for school access.

On the basis of objective criteria, the distribution of the regional fund for the school plan provides for the following territorial articulation: 3,154,235.11 euros to the municipalities of the provinces of Catanzaro, Cosenza, Crotone and Vibo Valentia; 1.345,764.89 euros to the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria, which will redistribution to the municipalities of its territory.

Through the regional fund for the school plan, The plan finances a series of key services provided by local authorities: school transport that includes contributions for fuel, staff, vehicle rental, and purchase of equipped school bus, in particular for pupils with disabilities; the canteen service with support for municipalities to guarantee school refection as an educational and inclusion moment, with particular attention to children of the kindergarten and primary school; residential services through funding for boarding schools and semiconvits intended for deserving pupils belonging to low -income families; Specialist assistance for pupils with disabilities with support for autonomy and communication through qualified professional figures (educators, LIS interpreters, mediators, etc.); Home education and school in hospital to guarantee the right to education even in situations of serious fragility.

Plan VHe raises the co-programming between municipalities, educational institutions, and other stakeholders who in various capacities contribute to making the right to study effectiveidentifying specific priorities and needs through tools such as the service conference.

Specialist assistance for pupils with disabilities represents an indispensable priority. It will take care of the Municipalities, in connection with the schools, to activate the most appropriate forms of management – direct or indirect – guaranteeing qualified personnel and in possession of the normally provided for requirements.

Discounted, then, two acts by the Councilor for Transport and Agriculture, Gianluca Gallo.

The changes to the current operating program of local public transport on the road have been approved in the field of transport, rebalancing the provision of public transport services in the urban areas of Calabria, with the same overall cost, bringing it closer to the needs quantified by the essential level of the services already approved by the Regional Council.

Noteworthy in particular is the increase of over 15% of services in the municipality of Corigliano-Rossano.

The other resolution of the Councilor for Agriculture approved concerns the compulsory liquidation of the integral reclamation consortia of the Jonio Cosentino basins, the Tyrrhenian Cosentino, northern and southern Cosentino.

On the indication of the Councilor for the Environment, Giovanni Calabresethe organic equipment of the body for regional marine parks was also deliberated. The new institution body was born from the processes of merger with previous bodies and, not having any staff units, has carried out its activity to date by making use of temporary collaborations, financed with resources bound for the implementation of regional, national and European plans and programs.

Finally, the junta on the proposal of the Councilor for Economy and Finance, Marcello Minenna, approved the management report for the financial year 2024 – to be transmitted to the Regional Council – of the Regional Agency for the protection of the Calabria environment (Arpacal), and the body for regional marine parks.
