The sum that Palazzo Europa asks the European Union to secure the symbol of the city, the sanctuary of the patron saint Maria Santissima, located on top of the promontory, is equal to 2,250,000 euros.
In fact, for some time it is feared that the rock on which the church insists could be crumbled under the fury of the atmospheric agents and, just last year, many reported to the first citizen the landslide of some faults in the direction of the sanctuary. Indeed, some photos taken thanks to the use of a drone caught the spotlight on a rocky area from which some boulders would be detached.
Already years ago Gianni Minutoli, professor of the University of Florence, in one of his studies presented to the then municipal administration led by the mayor Enzo Sindoni, paid for the risk of landslides that could slide the whole monumental complex of Mount of Madonna.
As is known, in addition to the sanctuary at the top of the promontory, the remains of the Castle of Orlando, the bell tower and the rectory are also located. A little further down, however, the former Palazzo del Cottolengo insists, now reduced to a mass of ruins.
