The provincial commander of the Carabinieri of Crotone, Colonel Raffaele Giovinazzo, has been promoted to Chief of Staff of the Calabria Carabinieri Legion. For this reason, the mayor of Cosenza, Franz Caruso, expressed his warmest congratulations and those of the entire municipal administration of Palazzo dei Bruzi to Colonel Giovinazzo.

“I express my personal satisfaction and that of the entire municipal council to Colonel Giovinazzo – underlined Mayor Franz Caruso – The new and prestigious position to which he has been called is the meritorious completion of a professional journey, at the service of the State and of Merit, during which the high officer has particularly distinguished himself in all the functions which over the years he has carried out with great dedication, passion for the uniform and a very high sense of institutions. To him – added Franz Caruso – goes our heartfelt appreciation because, thanks to his human and professional qualities and his extraordinary coordination skills, the force has been able to achieve important operational results, strengthening the sense of security among citizens and enhancing the principles of justice and legality. The activity that Colonel Giovinazzo – said Franz Caruso again in his congratulatory message – has carried out to protect security and public order is worthy. I am sure that his excellent wealth of experience, accumulated over the years, will also make him stand out in his own new and important function”.

Mayor Franz Caruso also recalled the different stages of Colonel Raffaele Giovinazzo’s professional activity: from the Operations Department of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Cosenza to the role of Commander of the territorial department of Corigliano-Rossano, up to that of Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Crotone, a position assumed in November 2022 and which immediately put him to the test with the management of the Cutro massacre in February 2023. In Crotone he held the position until a few days ago, when he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Calabria Carabinieri Legion. “We must not forget the crucial role that Colonel Giovinazzo had – recalled Franz Caruso – in his capacity as commander, since 2001, of the Unit for the protection of the cultural heritage of Calabria. In that role he achieved important results for the recovery and protection of many Calabrian artistic and cultural assets. And it was precisely that role – remarked the mayor of Cosenza – that deservedly opened the doors to him of the support structure of the “Great Pompeii project”, established by the Ministry of cultural heritage with the aim of carrying out restoration and conservation projects of the very important archaeological site. In expressing gratitude – concluded Franz Caruso – I wish Colonel Giovinazzo good luck, an exemplary servant of the State and a model of dedication and service to the country, an expression of the highest civil and moral values that represent the Meritorious”.
