The applause of the volunteers. Unisami is an association made up of men and women who fight for better public healthcare. Some of them have had significantly painful personal experiences: it is for this reason that they have been watching and fighting for things to change for years. The launch of the Cardiac Surgery department represents an important step forward for the volunteers. The president of Unisami, Roberto Altimari, lost his sister, Adriana, prematurely due to an aortic dissection, when a cardiac surgery department did not yet exist in Cosenza. Member Francesca Salimbeni also experienced a family loss linked to the same lack of care.
«It is difficult to separate satisfaction from emotion – says Altimari – knowing that cardiac surgery has started. My thoughts go to my sister Adriana and to all the people who over the years have not had the opportunity in Cosenza that finally exists today.
