Castanea recalled Msgr. Antonino Isajafor 62 years humble and illuminated guidance of a community that today, six years after the death, houses the cultural and religious legacy of an activist of the renewal of the Catholic Church. A sign of gratitude that the faithful, together with the parish priest Don Vincenzo Majuriwanted to place at the entrance of the Matrix church of San Giovannireopened to worship on June 15 with the altar dedication ceremony.
The building was returned in all its beauty, after the renovation works that have affected in addition to the masonry works, the bell tower, the roof covering, the restoration of the wooden coffered ceiling with the lighting system, the restoration of the statue of San Giovanni and the Vara on which it is brought to procession and the lateral altars where they will be placed at the end of the restoration, the two paintings of the Madonna of the letter between the Saints Damiano and the Madonna del Rosario. A result made possible thanks to the generosity of the parish priest, Don Enzo Majuri, of the inhabitants of Castanea and some individuals; On the Church, some studies are underway following the discovery by the priest of an inscription that would attribute to the sacred building the title of Basilica Maggiore. It is a site of great value that together with the other churches – of the Rosary, of Santa Caterina, of San Cosimo – constitutes one of the richest religious architectural heritages of the city and provincial territory.
