When the will is bilateral, an agreement can be found in a reasonably quick time, even quicker than those – in any case not too long – imagined at the beginning of the negotiation. Catanzaro has reached an agreement on the renewal with two of its most important players, Tommaso Biasci and Stefano Scognamillo: there’s not much left, basically the signatures on the contracts that will move their expiration to June 30, 2026 (instead of 2025) with the option for an additional season. As an answer to the fans who feared the complete dismantling of a historic group, it’s not bad. And it doesn’t end here. But let’s proceed in order.
On Tuesday afternoon, sporting director Ciro Polito and Biasci’s agent met at the club, spoke for a few hours and left each other aware that there was good room for an agreement on the renewal. Yesterday, further progress was made and the player’s yes was total. In this way, the market sirens that were ringing around him have been definitively turned off, especially the insistent ones coming from Cesena. The thirty-year-old Tuscan striker will continue to do what he knows how (goals) in Giallorossi. Extending the agreement was what the club wanted, which in any case would not have let him go so easily, and the player himself, who could have left, but did not want to do so.
The other renewal achieved by Polito is that of defender Stefano Scognamillo. After Verna’s farewell, the thirty-year-old centre-back is the player with the longest militancy in the Aquile’s locker room. Avellino had requested him and it seems that he was even tempted (by the way, today Sounas signs with the Irpini), but the bond between Catanzaro and the Neapolitan is very strong and the fact that the club let him know that they were still counting on him had already opened a breach. The rest was done by the work carried out by the sporting director in recent days and aimed at signing an agreement with the same horizon (2026 plus option) as his teammate.
The most anticipated renewal, however, obviously concerns captain Iemmellowho immediately ended up at the center of discussions (of the sporting director and the coach) and strategies of the Giallorossi with the aim of retouching in terms of time (and logically also financially) the contract already extended 13 months ago, immediately after the promotion to Serie B. The dialogue with Iemmello’s agent started in the last few hours, it is not certain that it can be concluded quickly, but the confidence in the positive outcome of the operation is very consistent, also because as for the other two (Biasci and Scognamillo) the interest of the parties involved goes in the same direction. The three senators will not be the only ones to sign a renewal. Polito and Caserta are also counting heavily on Situman indispensable element for versatility (he can play in multiple roles), tactical intelligence, experience and adherence to the cause: once the squaring of the circle has been found, the Croatian is another who could soon be called to the headquarters to sign a new contract.
Brighenti would also have no problem staying and the club, for its part, seems to have no problem letting him stay. Despite being close to 35, Nicolò has shown that he can still handle the impact of Serie B: maybe not as a regular starter for 38 games, but someone like him would fit perfectly in the rotations.
