There is a future for theformer school “Carbone”, Closed for a long time but there is also a new perspective for a further portion of the historic center, intended to redevelop itself by performing a socially relevant function. In fact, the “Desteenation -Desideri in action” project concretely takes shape, aimed at the creation of multifunctional spaces for teenagers to whom to allocate integrated services aimed at promoting, in girls and boys, autonomy, ability to act in their own contexts of life, participation and inclusion.
For this initiative, Catanzaro, the leading municipality of the social territorial area, is the recipient of State funding of over 3 million euroshaving successfully participated in the notice published in March last year by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies.
As part of this funding, 270 thousand euros are aimed at the extraordinary maintenance works of the former “Carbone” school, which will become multifunctional space to welcome the activities of the children. Works for which the city council, chaired by the mayor Nicola Fiorita and on the proposal of the Councilor for Public Works, Pasquale Squillaceapproved the relative executive project.
“The current state of the building – explains the commissioner – has imposed a global intervention that will concern both the maintenance of the plants and their adjustment to the current legislation, and the redevelopment of the spaces to respect the standards relating to the project destination. In the end – concludes Squillace – we can have a modern multipurpose center, which functions from the social laboratory, located in the heart of the historic center and, therefore, also part of a plurality actions, inside a coherent vision for the relaunch of the historic center itself “.
From this point of view, the choice to place “Desemination“And, in particular, the multifunction space within the former school, in that part of the city, is therefore configured as a non -random choice.” As a municipal administration, we liked the idea of connote the historic center also through this noble function because with a strong social character – comments the councilor for social policies, Nunzio Belcaro. The project offers to the boys and girls of the first and second grade secondary schools residing in the social territorial area of Catanzaro a concrete and targeted response to the problems that live in everyday life, making a safe and stimulating place available to them to grow, confront and develop their potential.
There is a need to counter adolescent discomfort and school leaving, providing educational and socialization opportunities and the new space – adds Belcaro – will allow young people to also practice sports and cultural activities; Confronting experts and educators; develop skills and talents in an inclusive environment; Building a community based on participation and integration. It is in hindsight an investment for the future of the city, with which this municipal administration strengthens its commitment to promote inclusive and innovative youth policies. The recovery of the former Carbone School – concludes the commissioner – however represents not only a sign of attention to the new generations, but also an important opportunity for urban regeneration to bring the historic center back to its ancient vocation of aggregating and socially all -rounded place “.
