An audience full of young students welcomed, at the Teatro Comunale, one of the best-known faces of Italian investigative journalism: Sigfrido Ranucci. The author met with the students of the “Siciliani – De Nobili” high school campus to present his latest book, “Navigare without fear”, transforming the event into an important opportunity for reflection on digital citizenship.
The institutional and educational value of the meeting
The meeting, promoted by DS Filomena Rita Folino and moderated by professor Massimiliano Apreda, saw the participation of the highest city authorities. After the greetings of the DS, the mayor Nicola Fiorita and the Councilor for Public Education Donatella Monteverdi brought the greetings of the administration, underlining the importance of taking debates of such ethical and social depth out of the classrooms, since awareness is the only antidote to the drifts of the web.
Digital citizenship and critical spirit
Ranucci therefore captured the attention of the kids by tackling the hot topics of the virtual world without filters: not only social networks, but also the less visible pitfalls of online gaming and the management of one’s digital identity. The heart of the intervention focused on the need to develop a critical spirit that allows us to distinguish the truth from manipulation, in an era in which information travels at a frenetic and uncontrolled pace.
Navigating the sea of fake news
“Navigating without fear” does not mean moving without rules, explained the journalist, but having the tools to avoid drowning in the sea of fake news and digital addictions. The enthusiasm shown by the students, who asked the journalist many questions, confirmed how strong the demand for dialogue is on issues that affect their private lives and their future as citizens on a daily basis.
