«Defining ours as an anti-Vannacci operation means belittling our project. With all due respect, we measure ourselves against other more important things: we want to contrast the party of bullshit with the party of pragmatism, of everyday life, of mayors and territories.” The leader of South Calls North, Cateno De Luca, said this during a press point outside Montecitorio, responding to those who asked him if the new political initiative, which aims to unite his movement with the Mayors of Italy in a single national list, was born in opposition to the leader of National Future. «We want to respond to General Vannacci’s jokes with something different: the concreteness and pragmatism of the mayors», explains De Luca, who arrived at the press point wearing a t-shirt with the writing “- generals, + mayors”, claiming a political project that from Sicily and the South aims to develop on a national scale. “We do not use parameters” of comparison “which as far as we are concerned could be truly offensive”, he added.

«I am annoyed by my colleague Sala’s do-goodism. There is no justification for what happened in Milan” continued Cateno De Luca, speaking on the clashes during the demonstrations in the Lombardy capital. “For me they should be put to forced labor,” he attacks, asking the Meloni government to introduce extraordinary measures to guarantee immediate compensation for the damage caused by the demonstrators. «Whoever is caught red-handed must pay to be freed. And the money must be given immediately to the municipality and to the operators”, highlights De Luca. “It is unthinkable that those who suffer the damage should have to wait for the conclusion of a trial, while those who caused them remain free and unpunished.” Hence the appeal to the executive to intervene with new rules: «Whoever causes the damage pays. Then, at the conclusion of the process, he will also give the balance”, adds the leader of the South calling North.

“We preferred to do things openly rather than the clandestine love that the center-left offered us.” De Luca, who announced the national assembly of his movement from 27 to 29 October in Rome, with the expected participation of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, acknowledged that he had also had discussions with the centre-left, but that he had rejected the proposal to merge into a civic operation linked to Alessandro Onorato. «The campo largo, or camposanto, made a very specific choice: that of a fake civility, with a test-tube operation carried out in Roman salons called Alessandro Onorato. We are the true citizens, we cannot become the surrogate of others. We have our own identity, history and above all results.”
