Several mobile phones, as well as narcotics and various instruments and objects which are not permitted to be brought into prison, were seized during an operation by the penitentiary police in the penal institute of Cosenza. The seizure is the result of an extraordinary search, which began in the early morning, in which around ninety penitentiary police officers from other institutions in the region were employed, with the help of canines. This was made known by the secretaries of the Sappe of Cosenza, Lorenzo Barbieri, Gennaro Calabrese and Franco Mazzuca.
“Our congratulations go to the colleagues employed in this important operation – say Giovanni Battista Durante, deputy general secretary of Sappe and Francesco Ciccone, national secretary – for the brilliant activity carried out.
We hope that the prisons in Calabria and throughout Italy will be made safer by screening the institutions, as
already done in Naples Secondigliano and equipping all the structures with dog units.”
