The debate on the choice of candidates to lead the Region, in view of next year’s elections, animates the Sicilian political panorama. It is already the electoral campaign, still fluid and marked by tactics, but the two coalitions are moving to find the balance and fit together the parties’ demands. Then there are the “solos” of Cateno De Luca and Ismaele La Vardera who are already marching with programs and candidates waiting to evaluate the opportunity of joining a broader political project.
The spotlight is on the centre-right, where Giorgio Mulè, vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies, wants to speed up the choice of the candidate for governor in Sicily: «It is up to the coalition, with respect to the national balance, to draw conclusions on who will be the centre-right candidate for the next elections in Sicily. But it must do it now and not only in Sicily, also in Milan, Rome, Naples, Palermo, in all the big cities that are going to vote in 2027. And this is because we must give the candidates the opportunity to organize themselves. And it certainly cannot be decided three months after the election but in a suitable time which, in my opinion, must be now”. Compared to the outgoing governor’s encore, Giorgio Mulè does not openly take sides and confirms the possibility of a front-line commitment: «I am a deputy elected in Sicily, I have the burden of having to represent this Region, as all those who have a responsibility should do, we make ourselves available to the party – he adds – and the party is part of the coalition that has governed this region and will decide as soon as possible who should be the candidate of 2027».
