Today, Tuesday 4 June 2024, OpenAI's chat AI, ChatGPT, has undergone a technical issue which has caused inconvenience for users across the globe. From 7am, the first reports appeared on sites like Downdetector, with official confirmation of the issue from OpenAI shortly after.
For several hours, ChatGPT was not accessible neither via app nor website, creating frustration among users who use the service for work, study or simply for leisure.
At approximately 1.45pm, OpenAI announced the problem resolutionbut around 4.30pm the down has reappearedleaving users again without access to the service.
A appeared on the OpenAI website and in the app message explaining the situation and offered the ability to receive a notification when service is restored. The message also included a nice note: Users could interact with a virtual sea otter that explained the problem in a humorous way.
As of around 6.30pm, the situation was not completely resolved, with some users reporting they were still having trouble logging in. OpenAI has assured that it is working to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
What happened?
The causes of the down have not yet been disclosed by OpenAI. It could have been a server overload problemdue to the increase in the number of users attempting to access the service at the same time.

At the moment, all that remains is to wait for official communications from OpenAI and hope for a quick resolution of the problem.
