The initiative of the Messina Association “The Cave” is called “Cineme”, financed by the Italian Youth Agency as part of the “European Solidarity Corps” program with the aim of involving young people in debates on a series of issues that concern everyday life, using cinema as a starting point for reflection.
The project, which makes use of the collaboration of the Mutuo Soccorso Mutual Aid Society of Castanea, aims to create an inclusive and stimulating space where the young people of the Community of Messina can express themselves, confront and grow together through cinema. “We want to use cineforum as an educational and social tool to promote active citizenship, social inclusion and awareness on relevant issues at local and European level – the volunteers say – we want to encourage young people to become active and aware citizens, capable of critically reflecting on social, cultural and environmental issues that concern their community and the European context. Crucial themes for the future of Europe “.
Through the viewing of films on key themes, followed by guided discussions, therefore, the participants are stimulated to explore new points of view and actively participate in the public debate. More specifically, themes are social inclusion, environmental sustainability, human rights, technology and its influence on society, social justice, the exploration of European identity and cultural diversity, youth empowerment and democratic participation, mental health and well -being, vision of the future and how young people can contribute to shaping a better society.
