Yesterday morning, the reclamation and brilliant residual warnings dating back to the Second World War were held, found at sea near Punta Alice off the coast of the Municipality of Cirò Marina. The alarm taken after the reporting of some citizens who identified a first device a few meters from the shore. In immediacy, the area of interest has been banned, to protect the safety of people and boats. A similar security framework was ensured on the mainland by the State Police, the Carabinieri and the Local Police, on the basis of the specific order of the Quaestor of Crotone.

The operations, coordinated by the Prefecture of Crotone, were effectively performed through the intervention of the SDAI nucleus of Taranto (headed by the underwater group and incursors of the Navy), in collaboration with the staff of the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Crotone.
The intervention carried out by the SDAI provided for a preliminary phase aimed at the safety and eviction of the shine area, during which a second device was identified.

The actual reclamation activity was launched at 9.00 am, with the preparation of the measures necessary for the safe transport of the war residues, to the point identified for brilliant, about three nautical miles from the port of Cirò Marina. The safety frame at sea was guaranteed by the Coast Guard with the help of the CP 569 patrol boat stationed in Cirò Marina.

On the marine seabed of the city of Cirò Marina lies the wreck of the Torpediniera Lince, one of the units of the Italian Royal Navy, which fell into the Punta Alice Sea on 4 August 1943 and which was sunk on August 28 by the English submarine Ultor.
The water mirror, already banned with 2009 and 2019 ordinances of the Port Authority, was further reported with a new interdiction order on 28 July.
In the sea it is not uncommon to come across unexploded devices and, as always, the Port Authority – Coast Guard recommends not to touch these objects in any way and report their position to their closest offices and/or to the police.
