Another day of heat, fear and fire today for Cirò. Hundreds of other hectares of its forest heritage were devoured by the flames. The fire, between the territories of Cirò Marina and Cirò, broke out violently in the morning. The fire quickly traveled along the marine side of the Mancuso hills and then devastated the slope visible from the provincial road that goes up to Cirò. In ashes the dense Mediterranean scrub and the woods that covered the hills inaccessible to the rescue teams that intervened from the ground. It took the two Canadians who went into action hours to overcome the flames driven and fanned by the wind. Green Calabria teams, forestry carabinieri, firefighters and civil protection volunteers were on site.
