The Municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore, a large center in the Cosentino area, offers its availability to welcome the human remains that the violent storms of recent days have pushed onto the shores of Calabria. Three discoveries occurred in the Cosentino area, one in the Vibonese area.

There is no certain hypothesis on the origin of the bodies, in an advanced state of decomposition. The acting mayor of San Giovanni in Fiore, Claudia Loria, and the municipal budget councilor, Marco Ambrogio, express “deep condolences for the tragedy that is taking place in the sea and on the Calabrian coast, where in the last few hours the storm surges have returned several lifeless bodies to the shore, probably victims of silent shipwrecks”.

«In the face of so much human suffering – continue the two administrators – we cannot remain indifferent. Therefore, with respect and dignity the Municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore makes itself available to the competent authorities to guarantee a dignified burial for one of the people found, in the event that no family members or other responsible persons emerge to take charge. The institutions and the civil community – continue Loria and Ambrogio – cannot turn their gaze in the face of tragedies that affect human lives, hopes and broken dreams. In these hours, while the Prosecutor’s Office and other authorities continue their investigations to identify the bodies and shed light on the causes of the deaths, our Municipality is ready to assume every civil and human responsibility necessary to ensure a respectful and dignified burial of the person, regardless of their identity, nationality or history. The Municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore offers its cemetery and its commitment, also by virtue – conclude the two administrators – of the history of humanity and solidarity of the San Giovannese community”.
