A silent procession but full of hope for the future crossed the streets of the city last night for the traditional Via Crucis of Good Friday.
A journey of meditation and prayer in which thousands of faithful took part, gathered around the Bishop, Monsignor Giovanni Checchinato, who, in the message of good wishes sent to the diocesan community in recent days, had recalled the rites of the Easter tradition, underlining how «the resurrection is not an event, but a process that is prepared by a long journey of good.

The Holy Week functions began last Sunday, Palm Sunday, when the Prelate presided over the commemoration of the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, while on Thursday Monsignor Checchinato opened the Easter Triduum by celebrating Mass in the prison with the Washing of the Feet.
Last night the Via Crucis, preceded, at 6 pm, by the liturgical action in Passione Domini. Subsequently, at 8pm, the faithful gathered in front of the church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Loreto, and then continued in procession towards the square that houses the parish of San Nicola, where the prayer journey ended.
A passage from the Bishop’s Easter message was highlighted: «On the evening of the Resurrection, Jesus will greet his friends with the word “Shalom”: everyone gives what they have, and there is nothing more beautiful and significant than peace to give to friends, peace that comes from a heart that has not known hatred.
