New meeting, Wednesday 14 January, between the mayor of Cosenza, Franz Caruso, and the No Snatch Committee, with whom they share objectives and concerns related to the future of healthcare in Cosenza and Calabria. 2026 opens as a year of new battles for the protection of the right to health and, above all, to avoid the theft of the new Hub hospital in Cosenza.
“The construction of the new Hub hospital in Cosenza – states Mayor Franz Caruso – is central not only for the city, but for the entire province. It is a strategic infrastructure in the process of reorganization and efficiency of the regional healthcare system, capable of improving the quality of services, reducing inequalities and strengthening the hospital network. On this objective we register full convergence with the No Snatch Committee”.
The mayor reiterates that the defense of the Hub hospital does not respond to parochial logic, but to a balanced and functional vision of the local healthcare system: “It is not a battle of bell towers. It is right that the university hospital is built in Rende, a fundamental structure for training, research and innovation. However, this cannot happen to the detriment of Cosenza. The two structures can and must coexist and integrate”.
“Cosenza must have its Hub hospital – concludes Mayor Franz Caruso – for the benefit of the entire province. As the capital city, it has the duty and the right to guarantee a reference healthcare facility for thousands of citizens. Defending this choice means protecting the general interest and the right to health. In this vein, my commitment continues in discussions with the No Snatch Committee, the institutions and the community, so that the new Hub hospital is built in Cosenza and becomes the cornerstone of a more efficient, modern public healthcare and close to the citizens”.
