After the well-deserved day of rest granted by coach Alvini, after the convincing victory obtained at the “Marulla” in the friendly match on Saturday against Foggia (2-0 with goals by Mazzocchi and Zilli), this afternoon the team returned to training.
It will be the week that will lead to the first official match of the season, Sunday 11th, at the “Olimpico Grande Torino” stadium. The match against the Granata will be played at 9:15 pm for the thirty-second finals of the Coppa Italia 2024-2025. Last year the Silani made a great impression against Sassuolo, brought to extra time (final victory for the Neroverdi by 2-5) by Mazzocchi with the 2-2 goal scored at the end of the 90th minute, which then became his trademark in the championship as well. The Milanese centre forward will once again lead the attack of the “wolves” in the first match of this year, but this time without Tutino at his side.
In the meantime, on the market, the work of the sporting director Delvecchio is incessant, trying to give the coach a complete squad for the start of the championship. José Mauri is in all respects a Cosenza footballer. After reaching an agreement at the end of last week, with a deposit in the League, the transfer from Argentina has finally arrived, the only missing document. The 28-year-old former Milan director convinced Alvini in the Cascia retreat and will occupy another position in midfield, a department that is probably more complete (another player should arrive anyway) and which has given, up to now, the best guarantees.
For the role of outsiders, the young Marco Palestra is still being followed behind the scenes. He is a 2005 class player owned by Atalanta who last season showed off his skills with the Nerazzurri Under 23 team in Group A of Serie C, making 41 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing as many assists. He also has the prestige of a presence with the senior team in the Europa League. Catanzaro and Frosinone are also pushing to sign him.
Another possible market derby with the Giallorossi for Federico Bergonzi. The right-footed full-back, who played for Feralpisalò last year, is also capable of playing on the left and would be ideal for Alvini’s formation. However, Pisa would also be interested in the 23rd place.
As is now well known, however, the priority remains the attack. The most popular name at the moment is that of Andrea Favilli of Genoa.
Born in 1997, he was asked to join Genoa, with whom he has a contract expiring on June 30, 2025, so if he doesn’t renew, he could be signed for more seasons. In the last two seasons he played on loan at Ternana, making 49 appearances in Serie B and scoring 10 goals, but only one in the last championship. The heavy salary makes the operation complex for this decidedly heavyweight striker, 191 cm tall.
