A ridge gives way in Stilo, in the province of Reggio Calabria, where a major landslide occurred right under the historic convent, overwhelming a house and burying several parked cars.
The toll shows no injuries. Inside the house which was hit directly by the landslide there was a woman: the structure was literally covered in debris but, according to initial checks, the resident emerged unharmed from the event. The damage remains, visible and heavy, and the shock of those who saw the mountain slide into the living room.
The firefighters’ searches under the material that fell into an embankment near a house following the landslide that occurred this morning in the town of Stilo where a ridge collapsed near the convent ended with a positive outcome. The hypothesis, already this morning, was that there were no people involved but for safety, the Monasterace firefighters called in the earthmoving group and, from Reggio Calabria, the USAR, a specialized and trained team for search and rescue in the event of landslides. At the end of the checks, the police were able to see that no one was involved. Indirect confirmation also came from the inhabitants of the town who did not report any missing people.
