The States General of the Controcorrente political movement, led by Ismaele La Vardera, candidate for the presidency of the Sicilian Region, took place in Agrigento on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September. A delegation from the Rinascita Messina civic movement, led by the engineer Gaetano Sciacca, actively participated in a series of meetings aimed at strengthening the alliance between the two movements and which sees the Honorable Alessandro De Leo as the trait d’union between the two movements.
A political confrontation that already looks to the next upcoming electoral appointments, both regionally and nationally, and which aims to transform the collaboration started in recent months into an increasingly structured political path. During the States General, the main political and administrative issues affecting the Sicilian territory were discussed, but also the strategies to be implemented in view of the upcoming electoral deadlines. Particular attention was paid to the political situation in Messina and the developments linked to the latest elections. The spokesperson for Rinascita Messina, Adolfo De Angeli, declared that during the meetings the next appeals to the TAR regarding the case of the failure to collect signatures were also discussed. Also at the center of the discussion is the hypothesis of a possible return to the polls for the Messina administrative elections and the possible political consequences of an early electoral scenario. In this context, the possibility of a joint placement of the two lists in the possible administrative competition would also have been addressed, further strengthening the political relationship between Controcorrente and Rinascita Messina.
The States General of Agrigento therefore represent a further step in the path of rapprochement between the two political realities, with the declared objective of building a common and coordinated presence in the next electoral appointments and of consolidating a civic and political project that can find space at both local, regional and national level.
Meanwhile, Antonio Ingroia also joins Ismaele La Vardera’s Countercurrent movement. The membership also came on the sidelines of the «General States» of Ismaele La Vardera’s movement, which took place in Agrigento between 5 and 6 September. At the same time, Ingroia will maintain his roles as president of a national political movement such as Civil Action and of the Spazio Legalità Foundation. At the basis of this decision – explains Ingroia – there is the sharing of values that converge in a political vision in which legality represents a central and non-negotiable element”. «My membership – continues the former prosecutor of the ‘State-Mafia Negotiation’ trial and now a lawyer – is an expression of my desire to actively contribute to a project in which I recognize ideas and objectives that I consider important for the future of Sicily and also applicable at a national level. I will make my experience and commitment available in the defense of legality and the Constitution to support the movement in its activity, with the aim of contributing to the demands for change that can no longer be deferred, which we want to carry forward together”.
