Carlos Alcaraz forced to withdraw. The world number 1 will not be able to take the field with the Spanish national team in the Davis final eight scheduled in Bologna. After this morning’s rumors from the Iberian press, he announced it himself with a message on social media: “I’m very sorry to announce that I won’t be able to play for Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna. I have an edema in my right hamstring and the doctor advised me not to compete. I’ve always said that playing for Spain is the best thing there is and I couldn’t wait to help the team fight for the Davis Cup. I’m going home with my heart heavy…”, the words of Alcaraz, fresh from defeat in the final of the ATP Finals in Turin against Jannik Sinner.

On Thursday, Spain will take to the field to face the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals, but will have to do so without the world number 1. The captain, David Ferrer, will rely on Jaume Munar and Pablo Carreno Busta as singles players, while the doubles will be formed by the pair of Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez.
