Full theater in Palermo for the “government of liberation” convention, a slogan coined by Cateno De Luca, a stage in the electoral journey of the leader of South Calls North who aims to become “the mayor of Sicily” in next year’s regional elections and who is also building the team to conquer the municipality of the Sicilian capital, to vote in 2027.

Many administrators in the audience from all over the island, in the front row the mayor of Messina Federico Basile. Also listening to De Luca’s proposal were some exponents of the centre-right and centre-left: the FdI commissioner Luca Sbardella, the Sicilian leader of the PD Anthony Barbagallo, the regional deputy of Fi Gaspare Vitrano, the parliamentarian of the League Vincenzo Figuccia, the deputy of Noi Moderati Marianna Caronia, the former president of the ARS and director of Grande Sicilia Gianfranco Miccichè, the deputy of the M5s Luigi Sunseri, Gandolfo Lo Verde for Controcorrente and the director of Italia Viva Fabrizio Micari.

«Before betting on a horse you need to evaluate the legs and that’s why I’m here», says Miccichè entering the full room. Also close to the stage is the president of Ars Gaetano Galvagno. «South calls North is a movement rooted throughout Sicily, I accepted the invitation because I have respected De Luca for many years as a politician and administrator: Cateno is a friend».

“The liberation government of Sicily for the post-Schifani era”

We are not here to beg for the support of political forces, South calls North, as emerged from the recent administrative elections, it is the first party in Sicily with over 20% of consensus obtained in the 17 municipalities where proportional voting was voted. We are here in Palermo to notify the Sicilian people and the national parties of the decision to move the post-Schifani negotiations on the island to Rome.” Thus the leader of ScN Cateno De Luca at the convention entitled “the government of liberation” underway in Palermo.

«We are aware that to be taken into consideration by Roman circles, the 1.5% that is attributed to us at a national level is not sufficient – said De Luca – It is therefore necessary to move on to the second action of ScN: building a national political movement of Sturzian, southernist and autonomist inspiration. At the end of October there will be the ScN national conference in Rome with the aim of participating in the next political elections with our lists throughout Italy. We will reiterate our request to be the protagonists of a new political season in Sicily, because we note with bitterness that the regional interlocutors of the national parties are struggling to build a path”.

«The political project we are building is not made up of self-referentiality and clientelism – stated De Luca – We want a policy based on the ethics of responsibility, competence, made up of young people and women. We are a party of action that builds consensus through good governance.”

“South calls North will not be a taxi”

“We are tired of being treated like a taxi, as was done by the De Gasperi 4.0 on duty who has never managed even a condominium.” Thus the leader of ScN, Cateno De Luca, speaking from the stage of the convention underway in Palermo, referring to those who were elected with his movement and then left the party.

«I thank President Galvagno and the entire office of president of the Ars for allowing the ScN parliamentary group to continue working for Sicily», said De Luca, addressing the president of the Ars sitting in the front row of the theatre.

“The center-right pulls the plug on the inadequate Schifani and goes to the vote”

«There is not a single reform of the Schifani government, over 50% of the rules approved by the Sicilian Parliament have not been implemented. What is the center-right waiting for to pull the plug on a governor who has proven to be totally unfit to administer? We reiterate our request: go and vote immediately. We ask regional parliamentarians to resign and go to the polls to change Sicily.”
